The Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Youths and Sports, Hon Adegboyega Adelabu Aremo last night sent his greetings to Muslims in Osun State as the 30-day Ramadan fast begins today.

Recall that Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III last night declared today as the first day of Ramadan, 1442 AH

Making the announcement in his palace in Sokoto, the Sultan said the commencement of the fast followed reports of sighting of the moon across various states of the federation which marked the end of the month of Shaaban 1442 AH.

In his message to the Muslim faithful across the state on the beginning of the Ramadan, Aremo said fasting is not just merely meant to stay hungry or thirsty, but an opportunity to strive for inner purification and self-accountability.

The Special Adviser on Youths and Sports, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen in Osogbo, on Monday, said “It is meant to inculcate righteousness and discipline. ”

He enjoined fasting Muslims to increase their love for humanity, acts of charity, kindness, generosity and gratitude.

He called on Muslims and all citizens of the state to always remember men and women who are less fortunate than themselves.

Aremo also urged Muslim faithful to use the fasting period to pray for Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his determination to take the state to the greater heights.

“The ninth month of the Islamic calendar involves abstaining from food, drink, smoking and sex between early morning and sunset.

“Fasting – during Ramadan or for other reasons – is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, the others being faith, prayer, charity and the pilgrimage to Mecca.

“I enjoin Muslim faithful to use this fasting period to pray for the state and our amiable Governor Gboyega Oyetola to succeed in his determination to take the state to the greater heights.

“As the month of Ramadan starts, talk respectfully, treat others kindly, walk modestly and pray sincerely. May Allah bless you and your family
