Osun: Court remands police inspector who allegedly killed fashion designer

An ex-Police Inspector, Ago Egharevba who allegedly hit a 20-year-old fashion designer with the butt of the gun was on Monday remanded by a Magistrate Court sitting in Ibokun, State of Osun.

Eghareva was dismissed last week by the Nigeria Police Force after he was said to have hit 20-year old, Ayomide Taiwo with the butt of the gun over N50 bribe on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

After six days in coma, the victim on August 9, 2020 breathed his last at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo, where he received treatment.

Inspector Oladoye Joshua who led the prosecuting team told the court that about 5:00 pm at llahun, Ijebu-ijesha road, Ibokun, Ago did unlawfully hit one Ayomide with the butt of the gun on top of a moving motorcycle which made him lose control and fell down and eventually led to his death.

He told the court that the ex-Inspector committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol.Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Awosan remanded the accused in Ilesa correctional centre and adjourned the case till October 19.
