Carabao Cup: Why Man City Beat Us 3-2 – Liverpool boss, Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has explained the reasons behind Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

Pep Guardiola’s City had the upper hand in the 5-goal thriller and Klopp blamed the Reds’ defending for the defeat, insisting all the goals they conceded were ‘completely unnecessary.’

Holders Liverpool crashed out of the competition at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Erling Haaland, Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Ake all the Premier League champions needed to progress to the quarter-finals.

And Klopp felt all of the home side’s goals were avoidable.

Klopp told Sky Sports: “We played a formation that we haven’t played for a long time…, we needed time to adapt.
