I have seen quite a number of young people show interest in becoming the numero uno after President Muhammadu Buhari and I am far from being impressed.
A good percentage of these aspiring people are from all works of life. Mostly doing exploit in their chosen fields. Quite frankly, they have proven to know their onions and their competence is solid.
However, they seem more like a leper who is dreaming of riding on the King’s horse if judged by their level of preparedness towards taking the rein of leadership. No solid plan. Just talks and no commemorative action.
A 2023 Presidential hopeful with no structure in the six geopolitical zones that Nigeria is made up of? Talking about the thirty-six states is a complete waste of words because some cannot even beat their chest of having a good grip on four of the seven hundred and seventy-four local governments and you wonder how these people intend to run the country.
Nigeria is in dire need of Saviours -no doubt, but the crop of people who wakes up few seconds to election, buy nomination form under a new poorly formed party and go about social media shouting not too young to run are nowhere near being saviours.
Do not get me wrong, I believe in young candidacy but I believe in process. I believe in system. I believe in structure. If you are indeed ready to lead the country, you must start with having a structure that connects you from top to bottom. You must be sure to have people who share your values, agenda and beliefs at the grassroots.
Beyond party, ethnic and religious differences, a leader must be able to inspire his people into achieving economic, infrastructural, medical and environmental goals. You are not meant to do it all as a President, but a quality network of competent believers will deliver dividends of democracy across board.
My submission: 2027 is few days away but it gives enough time to plan. Start building structures now. Consult wisely and widely. Improve yourself and others in your circle. Take leadership courses, take tutelage from world leaders. Stay out of trouble. Don’t engage in what may dent your image. Make honesty your watch word. No, I am not saying you should be perfect, just be above boards. Jostle and take lesser offices and see how you fared. Most importantly, be genuinely concerned about Nigeria’s progress.
God bless Nigeria!
