2023: Police commissioner advises Kaduna politicians against violating electoral law

The police commissioner in Kaduna, Yekini Ayoku, has advised politicians against running foul of the electoral law.

Mr Ayoku gave the advice on Monday when he undertook an operational tour of the two offices and other facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Kaduna metropolis to assess and upscale security preparedness for the 2023 polls.

The police chief added that the police would not compromise the law in its statutory duties of protecting the lives and property of citizens.

Mr Ayoku was received by the commission’s administrative secretary, Auwal Mashi.

Mr Ayoku and the secretary jointly inspected the facilities and reviewed deployments while proffering professional advice on the physical security of assets and materials.

The police commissioner said the tour complied with the directives of inspector general of police Usman Baba on fortifying all INEC offices across the country.

In the weekly conference with officers, he said the divisional police officers and their supervisory Area Commanders were earlier directed to ensure round-the-clock tight security around INEC offices in their various areas of responsibility.

The commissioner reassured INEC of the command’s support and that of other security agencies in executing the commission’s mandate of conducting free, fair and credible general elections.

“I sternly warn miscreants and mischief makers to steer clear of INEC facilities, and I also advise political actors, candidates and their parties to play the game by the rules or have the law to contend with,” stated Mr Ayoku.
