A yet to be identified officer was reportedly killed when unknown gunmen attacked a Police checkpoint in the Ohafia area of Abia State on Wednesday.

It was also gathered that another police officer was injured in the attack.

The Abia State Police Command is yet to comment on the incident, which reportedly occurred at Ugwu Abba Asaga, in Ohafia.

But the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka while responding to inquiry, promised to get back to DAILY POST.

But she was yet to respond as of the time of filing this report.

On Monday, the Abia State government fingered some unnamed politicians and external parties as being behind the wave of kidnappings, killing of security men and civilians since the end of May 2024.

The Abia State government, in a statement signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, vowed that promoters of violence and insecurity in the state will pay a heavy price.

But a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Commissioner for Trade and Investment, John Okiyi Kalu, rejected the position of the state government, saying that insecurity in the state should not be politicized but tackled.
