Security Guard Caught Dumping Waste Illegally, Faces Prosecution in Lagos

A security guard identified as Andy, employed by Slot Phones and Accessories at No. 39 Sasha Road, Akowonjo, has been apprehended for illegally dumping refuse at the road median along Akowonjo Road, Lagos.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, revealed that investigations at the business premises confirmed the presence of a designated waste storage facility.

However, he said no valid reason was given by the security guard for the improper disposal of waste at the road median.

According to Wahab, the facility manager claimed that the company was registered with a Private Sector Participant (PSP) for waste collection but failed to provide proof of payment to the PSP operator.

Following the discovery, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has initiated legal proceedings against the suspect in accordance with the state’s environmental laws.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing sanitation regulations, warning individuals and businesses against illegal waste disposal, which contributes to environmental degradation in Lagos.
