INEC Clarifies Role of IREV in Election Results
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IREV) is not designed for collation of election results, but rather for viewing purposes only.
According to Dr. Mutiu Agboke, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, results uploaded on the IREV portal should not be considered as final election results.
“For accuracy INEC also makes use of IREV to collate results and not to announce the results. It is not the final result.
“IREV is for viewing and not for collation.”
The commission assured the public that it will engage security agencies to curb vote buying in the 2026 elections and has urged political parties to promote women and youth participation in politics.
He said INEC will engage the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other security agencies to curb vote buying in the 2026 elections.
On the allegation of bribe collection by INEC staff in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, Agboke dismissed the reports as unfounded.
He said, “I don’t throw away such allegations. We will investigate to monitor where the truth lies. They should give us time. We are on top of the matter.”
“It is not correct to leave the bulk of the work with INEC. We will continue to educate. We will increase our surveillance on those carrying the act with collaboration with security agencies,” he added
