Ilesa Shootout: Amotekun Operatives Outgun Notorious Gang, Seizes charms, Hard Drugs

Osun Amotekun Corps has recorded another breakthrough in the fight against violent crimes in the state, with the arrest of a notorious murder and kidnap suspect in Ilesa.

The Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Chief (Dr.) Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, disclosed this in a statement made available to Newsmen on Sunday.

He explained that the operation took place on Friday, September 6, 2025, at about 5:59 p.m., when operatives tracked down a wanted gang to their hideout in the Isokun area of Ilesa.

According to Omoyele, the gang, led by a notorious suspect on the wanted list of several security agencies, engaged Amotekun operatives in a fierce gun duel in a desperate attempt to resist arrest. However, they were overpowered through strategic decoys employed by the security team.

The operation, which lasted several hours, led to the arrest of the gang leader, identified as 42-year-old Ayoola Samuel Awe, popularly known as “Bishop Awasere,” alongside one of his accomplices.

Recovered from the suspects were hard drugs and assorted charms believed to have been used in their criminal activities.

Meanwhile, Omoyele noted that operatives were on the trail of other fleeing gang members, assuring the public that further developments would be communicated as the investigation continues.

He commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property across Osun State.
