Communal Crisis: Osun CP visits Ifon, Iloobu, Erin, Urges Them to Embrace Peace

The commissioner of police, Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan has urged the three warrying communities in Irepodun and Orolu Local Governments Areas to embrace peace for the development of their people.

The Osun CP made the appeal on Tuesday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to stakeholders in Erin-Osun and Iloobu communities in Irepodun and Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government.

He charged the people of the communities to forgive and forget past experiences for peace to reign.

It would recalled that the land dispute between Erin-Osun, Iloubu, Ifon-Osun communities led to loss of many lives and billions of naira worth of properties

CP Gotan said that his meetings with stakeholders in three warrying communities is to have first hand information from all the parties involved in order to provide lasting solutions to dispute.

He implored the all stakeholders in those communities to give adequate support to security agencies and government in providing solutions to the crisis.

Speaking separately to stakeholders in each community, he said , ”I’m here to assess the situation and to have first hand information from all the parties involved, based on that I will advise the government to take rational decision towards finding a lasting solution to this crisis.

“There will be no development without peace, will there be any development without peace?. So I want to urge you first before and foremost, you see yourself all as brothers, as descendants of Oduduwa.

“Let’s forget about what happened, let’s embrace peace, I am only here to see my members I post here to encourage them to do their best and give service to this Kingdom, we are here for peace and I urge you to put in your best and ensure that there is no cruise again in this period.

However, Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, commended the State commissioner police for deem fit to do spot assessment to their community.

Akinyooye assured the commissioner of police to support the security agencies and government for the lasting solutions to the matter.

Meanwhile, Chief Kayode Olawale, President Erin-Osun Progressive Union, speaking on behalf of the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Kolawole Omoloye Oyagbodun II, pledged adequate cooperation with the committee set up by the government.

He said, “We want to assure that government set up a committee in the issue, praying that they tender a comprehensive report. Though, it has delayed overtime.

Similarly, Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan also commended the State Police Command for their efforts on the matter.

He urged CP Gota to address indiscriminate arrest of the members of the community over frivolous petitions.
