Osun TESCOM Launches AI Workshop for Teachers

…Urging beneficiaries to maximize Training Opportunities

In a bold step towards modernizing the education sector, the Osun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), in partnership with the International Community of Education Technology (ICEDT), has launched a two-day capacity-building workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for teachers across the state.

The initiative, which reflects the vision of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was officially flagged off with an opening address by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Adedipo Eluwole.

He praised Governor Adeleke’s consistent commitment to advancing education in the state and congratulated the selected teachers, urging them to approach the training with seriousness and enthusiasm. Highlighting the transformative impact of technology in today’s world, the commissioner noted that the workshop is designed not just for immediate benefit, but to prepare educators for future challenges.

Hon. Eluwole also underscored the necessity of incorporating modern tools like AI into teaching methods to enhance both teaching and learning, especially as schools prepare for the new academic term.

While commending the program’s donor for their invaluable support, he acknowledged the financial constraints the state is currently facing due to the federal government’s seizure of local government allocations, which has delayed the recruitment of new teachers. Nevertheless, he assured that new teachers would be deployed to schools soon.

TESCOM Chairman, Comrade Tope Mustapha Adeyemi, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering efforts to elevate the standard of education in Osun.

He also lauded the donors for their contribution to teacher development and encouraged participants to fully embrace the training as a tool for personal and professional growth.

Executive Secretary of TESCOM, Mrs. Farotimi, also urged participants to make the most of the knowledge gained during the workshop, reminding them that no knowledge is ever wasted.

The AI workshop marks a significant milestone in Osun State’s drive toward a more innovative and technology-driven education system.

Similarly, the Muslim Comprehensive College, Irojo, Ilesa also played host to ICT teachers in the Six Local Government Areas of Ijesa zone in the State on Wednesday for similar workshop, where the teachers were fed with the the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence. No fewer than about 100 ICT/Computer Teachers in various public secondary schools in Ijesa land participated in the training.

While speaking with the media, the host Principal, Mr Wasiu Asafa commended the NGO and Osun TESCOM for such a seminar which he said had really unnearth the miseries in the AI and it’s resourcefulness in education.

Mr Asafa urged TESCOM not to relent in it’s efforts in revitalizing the pedagogical skills of the teachers, especially in the use of ICT.

Also speaking, one of the participants from Oba Ajimoko High School, Ilesa, Mr Joshua Owoeye exclaimed that the workshop has really impacted his knowledge in the basic fundamentals of AI.

He enthused that related training should be repeated in a no distance time. According to him, “we must move with the world and aclamatise ourselves with modern teaching and research methodologies, skills and tools, especially in the modern world of the ICT”, Owoeye stated.
