A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has hailed the crucial role of journalists in societal development, stating that no society can develop without the profession.

He disclosed this at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council’s yearly health walk, which is part of the activities marking Osun NUJ’s 2025 Press Week.

Oyebamiji, represented by Comrade Ayantunji Kehinde, described journalists as the light of society who deserve honour.

According to him, “Journalism is a noble profession, because they are the light of the society and they deserve our support. There is no society that is developing without journalism and that is why the we advocate with Osun State NUJ today to participate in this health walk.

Oyebamiji urged media practitioners to prioritize their health, stating that journalism is a creative profession requiring sound health to deliver quality work

He said “My advice to the public is that is we must continue to exercise our body, it is fundamental and primary because our survival largely depends on the status of our health. If you are not healthy, you can not do anything in life. So, I commend NUJ once again for this initiative.”

Meanwhile, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a former Osun State House of Assembly member, lauded the NUJ Osun council for organizing a health walk as part of their 2025 Press Week.

He described the media as a rallying point in society, shaping the community and directing situations.

He appealed to them to remain unbiased, balanced, and continue educating the public.

However, the state Coordinator for Moniepoint in Osun State, Olufemi Olaniyan emphasized the importance of staying healthy, stating that good health is essential for enjoying the fruits of one’s labour.

He noted that Moniepoint has been partnering with NUJ in the health walk for over three years, encouraging business owners and staff to prioritize exercise and health care.

According to him, “Whenever we work without rest or exercise, it’s very dangerous to our health. We should encourage business owners to make time for exercise, boost their immunity, and enjoy their labor.”

Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osun State Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, commended members for participating in the annual health walk.

Ajadosu stated that the event is aimed at promoting physical exercise and improving members’ health and well-being.
