Lagos State Schools, Teachers Clinch Top National Honours at 2025 World Teachers’ Day

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Lagos State Wing, on Sunday announces the outstanding performance of Lagos State’s education sector at the 2025 World Teachers’ Day National Awards Ceremony held in Abuja.

This was made known in a press statement jointly signed and made available to newsmen on Monday by the State Chairman, Comrade Hassan Muheeb Akintoye, the Secretary, Comrade Ayetoba Gbenga, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Fakolade Oluwafemi.

The statement informed that, the state dominated the awards across multiple categories, reaffirming its position as Nigeria’s undisputed centre of excellence in education.

According to the statement, “The landmark achievements include:

“Best Junior High School in Nigeria: Onike Girls Junior High School, Yaba, was crowned the best in the country, a testament to its academic excellence and holistic development of students. The school was rewarded with a brand new bus for this feat.

“First Runner-Up, Best Senior Public School in Nigeria: Eva Adelaja Senior Secondary School secured the highly coveted first runner-up position, highlighting the consistent quality of education from the junior to senior secondary levels in Lagos.

“Best School Administrator in Nigeria: The prestigious award for exemplary school leadership was bestowed upon Mrs. Odenike of Elepe Junior Secondary School, recognizing her exceptional administrative prowess and dedication.

“Runner-Up, Best Public School Teacher in Nigeria: Mr. Olayinka Adeosun was celebrated as the first runner-up for the Best Public School Teacher award, honouring his dedication, innovation, and impact in the classroom”.

These remarkable wins according to the Lagos State Wing of the NUT, are a direct reflection of the resilient commitment of every teacher across Lagos State. The NUT Lagos State Wing is immensely proud to be associated with these achievers whose hard work has consistently placed Lagos on the national and continental educational map.

The Union extends its heartfelt congratulations to the entire teaching workforce of Lagos State. This success is a collective victory. Special commendations are also due to:

· The Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II & IV.
· The Permanent Secretaries of the Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office (TESCOM) and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
· The Chairman of TESCOM.
· The Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
