Osun FRSC Holds Workshop for Special Marshal, Inducts New Members

The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), Osun State Sector Command on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 held its 2025 Special Marshal Sectoral Workshop to equip Special Marshals with required skills to provide necessary support to road users and perform optimally.

The event, held at the Osun State Staff Development Centre, Abere Osogbo with the theme “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals Operations”, also witnessed the induction of new members into the Special Marshals fold, to boost their numerical strength in Osun State.

The Sectoral Workshop is an annual event statutorily held across all State Commands of the FRSC, for the purpose of capacity enhancement, assessment and repositioning of the Special Marshals for proper functioning and optimal output in their noble call.

It also represents a significant platform for stocktaking and strategic alignment towards achieving the FRSC vision of a safe motoring environment and zero road traffic deaths.

The event was declared open by the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, who was represented by Hon. Yakub Moshood Adejare, SA Transport (Cabinet).

The Governor who also doubles as the Patron of the Osun State Special Marshals, appreciated the leadership of the FRSC under the visionary direction of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Usman Mohammed, mni, whose commitment to professionalism and innovation continues to strengthen road safety administration across Nigeria.

He also commended the Zonal Commanding Officer RS11 Osogbo and the Osun State Sector Commander for their dedication, partnership drive and outstanding leadership.

He appreciated all Special Marshals across Osun State for their volunteerism, patriotism and unwavering commitment to the vision of saving lives on the roads, noting that their contributions – through public enlightenment, patrol support, community engagement and advocacy – have continued to complement government efforts in ensuring the safety of road users.

Speaking at the event, the Zonal Commanding Officer in charge of Zone RS11 of the FRSC which comprises Osun, Ondo and Oyo States, Assistant Corps Marshal Joseph W Toby, MLC, FISPON, JP, said the theme of the workshop aligns perfectly with the Corps’ broader vision of ensuring that no life is lost to road traffic crashes.

He therefore urged the Special Marshals to take the workshop seriously and internalize the lessons it offers, which will go a long way in strengthening operational discipline, enhancing situational awareness and improving coordination with security and emergency agencies.

In his address at the event, the Osun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Leye Adegboyega, fsi, said the Special Marshals occupy a unique place within the structure of the Corps as patriotic volunteers who dedicate their time, resources and expertise to promoting safety and saving lives.

He further said their support over time has greatly strengthened the reach and impact of the Corps in the discharge if it’s statutory responsibilities. He therefore charged the participants to see the workshop as an opportunity to exchange experiences, deepen their understanding of risk management and strengthen operational harmony with the Regular Marshals, the uniformed arm of the Corps.

The Osun State Coordinator of the Special Marshals, Elder Hezekiah O Aluko, who delivered the welcome address at the event, affirmed that the timing of the workshop could not have been better, as the hostile attitude of some drivers pose serious risk to FRSC Operatives, both Regular and Special Marshals, which calls for the enhancement of security and safety strategies to protect them while on duty.

The Special Marshals are men and women of proven integrity who dedicate their time and other resources for the propagation of road safety ideals, towards the creation of safe motoring environment nationwide. They constitute the Second Tier of the Corps and are empowered to carry out their roles by the FRSC (Establishment) Act 2007.

Among those inducted as new Special Marshals are Engr. Akinmade Oladeji Akintoye – Member, Revenue Committee, Osun State; Alhaji Adesina Tajudeen Okandeji – Permanent Secretary, Bureau of General Services, Osun State; Mr. Atolagbe Lanre Aderemi – Deputy Accountant-General of Osun State; Mr. Olusoji Wojuade – Permanent Secretary (Cabinet); Mr. Muyiwa Olojede – CEO, Primus Expression, Osogbo, among others.

It is envisaged that this year’s workshop will sharpen their commitment to the ideals of road safety, discipline and national service, toward building a safer and more orderly transport environment in Osun State.
