‘A Responsible Leader Would Speak to a Nation in Pain’, Faduri Joseph Criticizes Tinubu’s Silence on Insecurity

Former Labour Party Presidential Aspirant and Founder of the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria, HE. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (Fadojoe), has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as “worrisome silence” amid growing insecurity and reports of genocide in parts of Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, Fadojoe expressed concern that despite widespread killings and international condemnation – including a comment allegedly made by the U.S. President Donald J. Trump – President Tinubu has yet to address Nigerians directly on the matter.

“In a responsible country, when the President of the United States accuses our nation of genocide, and this issue spreads across the global stage, one would expect our own President to promptly address his people,” he said. “In a serious and responsible nation, leadership must rise to the occasion in moments like this.”

Fadojoe noted that even the U.S. President Donald Trump had publicly made remarks directed at the Nigerian government, yet Nigeria’s own leader has remained silent.

“A responsible President would come out and say: ‘My people, I hear your pain. I hear your cries. I acknowledge the killings happening across our land – whether among Christians or Muslims. No Nigerian should be killed under our watch.’ That is the number one responsibility of any responsible leader and government: the protection of lives and property,” he stressed.

The humanitarian and political activist described the situation in Nigeria as “shameful,” accusing the government of complicity in the ongoing violence.

“It is shameful that some governors are still holding meetings with bandits. How can a government sit face-to-face with criminals, and yet, the next day, those same people go out to attack innocent citizens? That clearly means the Nigerian government knows these killers. If the government can summon them for a meeting, it means they are known – and that is proof of complicity,” he stated.

Fadojoe urged Nigerians to begin asking hard questions about the state’s failure to protect its citizens, warning that the persistent silence from the presidency was deepening public distrust.

“Above all, it is even more disheartening that the President of Nigeria does not see the need to address his citizens, to say, ‘I hear you, I see your pain, and I will do something about it.’ The truth is this: these killings are unacceptable. We cannot continue this way,” he lamented.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Fadojoe called on Nigerians to make informed choices and reject politicians with “long experience in corruption and mismanagement.”

“I hope that come 2027, Nigerians will choose wisely. Let us ensure that the elections are not rigged. Let us reject the same old politicians who have nothing to offer our country. We need leaders with genuine experience in governance, compassion, and a clear vision to make Nigeria great again,” he concluded.
