NANS Southwest Hails Osun Govt for “Imole Wi-Fi” Initiative, Describes Action asva New Dawn for Student Digital Inclusion

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended the Osun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke for the launch of the Imole Wi-Fi public internet service.

In a statement issued on Thursday, and obtained the Assistant General Secretary of NANS Southwest, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as BILLIONCODES, described the initiative as a bold and visionary stride towards digital empowerment and educational inclusion. The Imole Wi-Fi service, currently available at strategic public locations including the Osun State Library, Osun Mall, Alphastart Hub, and other youth-centric areas, aims to provide free and reliable internet access to students, researchers, and entrepreneurs across the state.

According to the statement, the Imole Wi-Fi rollout represents more than just digital connectivity—it embodies equal access to opportunity. The student body noted that with uninterrupted internet now available in libraries, tech hubs, and learning centres, students in Osun State can more easily attend virtual lectures, conduct academic research, and participate in global discussions. It further highlighted that the programme will equally benefit young innovators, small-scale business owners, and digital creators seeking to explore online markets and capacity-building platforms, aligning perfectly with Governor Adeleke’s vision of an inclusive digital economy.

NANS Southwest also applauded the broader reach of the initiative, noting that it extends beyond education to sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and community development. The association stated that the Imole Wi-Fi project resonates strongly with its mission of ensuring that Nigerian students are not left behind in the nation’s technological advancement. “For the student movement to truly thrive, digital inclusion must be treated as a right, not a privilege,” the statement emphasized, urging governments across the region to replicate the Osun model for sustainable youth development.

Comrade Adeyemo, who also serves as a convener of several student advocacy programmes in the Southwest, called on other state governments, tertiary institutions, and private partners to emulate Osun’s forward-thinking initiative. He reaffirmed NANS Southwest’s readiness to collaborate with the state in expanding digital infrastructure across campuses and rural learning centres. “Governor Adeleke’s administration has lit a torch for students and young Nigerians,” Adeyemo said. “NANS Southwest stands ready as a partner to amplify its reach and impact.”
