Osun APC Faults Adeleke’s Three Years Administration, Alleges Misplaced Priorities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s three‑year administration has misused public resources, caused the collapse of critical institutions, and led to worsening socio‑economic conditions across the state.

Addressing journalists at a press conference held at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo, the State Chairman of the party, Tajudeen Lawal, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government of failing to deliver meaningful development despite a significant rise in monthly federal allocations under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Lawal through the Director of Media Kola Olabisi alleged Osun State has witnessed ‘the reverse of development’ alleging that Governor Adeleke has prioritised projects that “easily attract public funds” at the expense of vital sectors including education, health, agriculture, security, and transportation.

He criticised the government’s focus on ‘needless and poorly executed flyovers and roads’, saying several of the projects allegedly fail basic engineering and integrity assessments.

The APC chairman further accused Governor Adeleke of engaging in blatant favouritism and nepotism, alleging that around 90 percent of the projects are concentrated in his hometown.

According to him, “Governor Adeleke has, through his approach to governance, demonstrated a preference for projects that easily attract public funds, to the neglect of critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, security and transportation. Instead, his administration has focused largely on the construction of needless and badly constructed flyovers and poorly executed roads that fail basic engineering and integrity tests.

“For instance, Governor Adeleke has redefined governance in the state through blatant favouritism and nepotism by concentrating about 90 per cent of these poorly executed development projects in his hometown and appointing more than half of political office holders from his family and community. This is evident in the widely observed “Edenisation” agenda of the government, where sensitive appointments are dominated by the governor’s kinsmen and women.

“It is glaring that Osun State under Governor Adeleke has drifted steadily toward systemic failure. Local governments are effectively shut down for about a year, the judiciary is crippled by the prolonged strike action and citizens are left without essential democratic, legal and social services.

“Without relief in sight, detainees languish without trial. Survivors of domestic violence are denied legal protection. Citizens seeking justice have nowhere to turn. Businesses cannot enforce contracts or resolve disputes. What prevails today is a breakdown of the rule of law—an abnormality that no democracy can survive.

“It is disheartening that under these circumstances, the Osun State Government continues to operate as though all is normal. The Executive and the Legislature function in isolation from the Judiciary and without the local government structure needed to translate policies into reality. The Adeleke administration governs with only two arms of government, in clear violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandates separation of powers and functional local institutions. The absence of these structures signifies that the state is not merely underperforming—it is failing.

“There is little to show that the Adeleke-led government has solutions to the multitude of challenges confronting the 34-year-old state. A serious government would not fritter away almost ₦1 trillion in revenue within 36 months without tangible impact. Yet, there is no functional public transport system, no housing scheme, and no recruitment of teachers.

“The 1,500 teachers and thousands of health workers duly employed by the previous administration were sacked as a result of political victimisation, while over 32,000 teaching job applicants were allegedly defrauded of their hard-earned money. There has been no credible recruitment for nearly two years.

“Students now pay as much as ₦1.5 million per session in UNILESA and UNIOSUN. School fees in Iree and Esa-Oke Polytechnics have doubled. Traditional institutions have been plunged into crisis, with multiple claimants to royal stools such as the Owa of Igbajo and the Aree of Iree, among others. Osun is experiencing state government instigated communal crises like never before under the failed Adeleke administration.

“In its entirety, the three-year administration of Governor Adeleke has been disastrous for Osun State. It has succeeded in retarding development and setting the state back by at least five decades, a setback that will require a genuinely progressive and performance-driven leadership to reverse,” he stated.
