MOTIJ Mourns Pro‑Chancellor Prof.Siyan Oyeweso

A stakeholder, Ede North Local Government, Hon. Mansur Oladimeji Tijani (MOTIJ), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor AbdGaffar Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and Provost of the Post-Graduate College at Osun State University.

In a condolence statement personally signed by him, MOTIJ described the deceased scholar as one whose passing at 64 represents “a painful loss to Osun State, the academic community, and our nation at large.”

According to Tijani, “Prof. Oyeweso was a scholar of rare depth and clarity. He carried knowledge with humility and led with quiet discipline. In lecture halls, council chambers and public conversations, he remained a voice of reason, balance and history-guided wisdom.”

He added that the late professor’s life and career embodied service and excellence, noting his contributions to education and governance.

“As Pro-Chancellor and Provost, he brought order, stability, and vision to institutions entrusted to his care. He believed in strong systems, merit, and the power of education to reform society,” the statement read.

Reflecting on his identity, the LG boss stated: “To us in Ede and across Osun, he was more than an administrator; he was a son of the soil who carried our identity with pride and discipline. He showed that one could rise in excellence without losing touch with home, culture, or community.”

Tijani extended condolences to Oyeweso’s family, colleagues and the academic community, praying for strength and comfort for all who mourn him.

“Prof. Oyeweso may have departed, but his work remains, and his name will endure. May Almighty Allah grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and give comfort to all he has left behind. A true intellectual has taken his final bow,” the statement concluded.
