The Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in Osun State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, has described the vote buying as a terrible cankerworm to the electioneering process in Nigeria.

The REC disclosed this on Thursday at the Commission state headquarters while hosting the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) led by its chairman, Mukhtar Ajelogbon.

Agboke said there is a need for the Commission to continue to engage the electorate to desist from vote buying practices.

He stressed that the Commission will engage the all political parties ahead 2026 governorship election.

According to REC, “Vote buying is still a terrible cankerworm, the stakeholders are not facing the reality of allowing it to go, so there need for us to continue to engage the public.

We only engage the public for them to understand before they can stop collecting money from those who have given them, so we need to talk to their mind to be conscious.

Again, we are going to engage the political parties, we are going to have scheduled from the 15th of May, we are going to move from one political parties office to the others.

“We are going to visit meet their executives, we are going seat down and talk to ourselves.

However, the chairman, Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA), Mukhtar Ajelogbon, said they purposely visitted the Honorable REC to partner with the Commission.
