Osun LG: APC Warns Adeleke’s Govt to Refrain from Acts Capable of Plunging State into Chaos

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday raised alarm over the continued ill-usage of court processes to terrorize the Local Government Councils’ elected officers and the entire people of the state by the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led government.

The main opposition party in Osun berated Governor Adeleke for deliberately inflicting unnecessary pains on the people of the state particularly the residents at the grassroots.

The APC warned Adeleke’s government to refrain from acts capable of plunging Osun State to avoidable irredeemable chaos and political setback with which ‘its barbaric actions and inactions’ could lead the state to.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s state secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, today, the APC State Chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, lampooned the PDP/Accord Party-led government under Adeleke’s watch for serving as clogs in the wheel of progress and development at the grassroots.

Lawal, whose address was read by the APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi said: “It is no longer news that on the 10th February, 2025, the Court of Appeal nullified the judgment that sacked our elected officers across all the Local Government Councils in Osun State and the judgment was never appealed by the Osun State government.

“However, the same State Government initially disdainfully refused to accept the verdict, claiming there was a lower court judgment in a sister case on the same subject matter and all advice rendered to the state government to respect the judgment of the 10th February, 2025 fell on deaf ears.

“Instead of approaching the Supreme Court, the State Government commenced multiple lawsuits at different courts against the same subject matter decided by the Court of Appeal. It was very shocking to the whole world when on 21st February, 2025, a judge from Osun State claimed to have interpreted the judgment/ruling of the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court judgments after which he directed the Osun State Government to conduct fresh elections on 22nd February, 2025 thus thereby attempted to render the Appeal Court judgment nugatory.

“The said judge commenced and concluded a whole suit within 48 hours without directing that other persons concerned be joined while feigning ignorance of the appellate court judgment that reinstated the APC chairmen and councillors.

“More of coincidence than design, on 5th December, 2025, the Supreme Court delivered judgment whereby it struck out the suit filed by the Osun State Government on the same Local Government Councils justifying the decision of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 which reinstated the APC Chairmen and Councillors on the 10th February, 2025. The Supreme Court, by the judgment, expressly indicated that the Osun State Government (the Plaintiff at the Supreme Court) and its candidates being deceitfully paraded as purported Chairmen and Councillors have no legal basis in that, the Court of Appeal ruling of 13th June, 2025 made no such order.”

The opposition party affirmed that by the latest Supreme Court Judgment, “the era of interim orders flying around the Osun State Local Government Councils is believed to have come to a meritorious end. The records are always there for any person who cares for such.”

Fielding questions from journalists, the Osun State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, described the multiple lawsuits instituted by the Adeleke government as frivolous and embarrassing just as he called on concerned stakeholders to educate the government on the need to respect the Supreme Court Judgment that reinstated the APC elected Council Chairmen and Councillors.

“Procurement of court order everywhere anytime is the major problem that we have in Osun at the moment and this is an impediment to the development in Osun. It has caused us a lot of damage because as a local government Chairman, one can not function under such process. The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has gone to several Courts, the government has gone to the High Court in Osun and even Oyo State not minding that we have High Court in Osun. They went to the High Court in Oyo and all over.

“We are overhearing that they have filed another case at the Magistrate’s Court after they had gone to the High Court up to the Supreme Court but now reversing to the Magistrate’s Court.

“This is just an attempt to stop development in Osun State. That is why we were unable to access the local government funds in the local government accounts simply because of cases here and there and procurement of judgments every now and then.

“I pray we overcome that. I want to appeal to the state government to stop all these because it is going to be a clog in the wheel of progress and development at the local governments in Osun. It is an embarrassment for them to have gone to the lower court up to the Supreme Court and reversing to the Magistrate’s Court”, the Osun ALGON chairs stated.

Responding to some of the questions raised by the newsmen, the APC Legal Adviser and Chairman, Irepodun Local Government Area, Hon. Adegoke Ogunsola, lampooned the state government for misleading the public by its deliberate wrong interpretations of Court judgments.

“We are here to show the whole world that we (APC elected Council Chairmen and Councillors) are in the local government legitimately. This is to inform the public that all the Court judgments that have been cited by the government officials were cited out of context.

“The claims of the PDP/Accord Party-led government, so far, concerning the genuine occupants of the local government councils, were being quoted out of context. The question is that if any of these judgments was in their favour, they would have assumed the position, instead, they do bring out a portion, perhaps Obiter dicta, to mislead the public instead of Ratio decidendi”, he added.
