Kidnapping: ORA Igbomina Youths Urges Govt to Establish Military Checkpoint at Strategic Borders

The ORA Igbomina Youth Front has raised alarm over the increasing cases of kidnapping in the ORA community, calling on the Osun State Government to immediately establish a military checkpoint in the strategically located border town.

The youth made the appeal in a press statement delivered by the Convener, Omololu Abidoye, in Osogbo on Thursday, expressing deep concern that recent kidnappings have plunged the community into fear, panic, and insecurity.

According to him, “I recalled that on December 15, 2025, a kidnapping incident occurred in ORA, a town linking Osun State with Ekiti and Kwara States. Despite the alarming incident, the group says little or no action was taken to prevent a recurrence.

Tragically, in less than two months, another abduction took “place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, when two residents—Sunday Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi—were kidnapped.

He noted that the failure of security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators of the first incident created an enabling environment for criminals specializing in kidnapping-for-ransom”, he stated.

The group highlighted the strategic importance of ORA as a border town connecting not only Osun, Ekiti, and Kwara States, but also the Southwest and North-Central regions, emphasizing that its vulnerability exposes residents to organized criminal activities.

He appealed to the government to take immediate action by establishing physical security barriers to clearly demarcate the state boundary and prevent unauthorized entry.

He also called for human and operational security measures, including community surveillance and watch initiatives, to enhance local safety. Finally, he urged the deployment of a military checkpoint in ORA to strengthen security against inter-regional criminal activities.

“We demand that Osun Government should put physical security barriers in place to define & demarcate the State boundary, and prevent unauthorized entry into the state through the ORA border.

” We demand Human and Operational Security be put in place for effective surveillance and community watch solely for territorial gatekeeping.

“We demand a Military checkpoint in Ora to enable a comprehensive security posture, against organized crime in volatile border area like our community — ORA IGBOMINA. A community that does not only connect Osun, Ekiti & Kwara States but significantly connected the Southwest and North central regions. A could such a sensitive border town be of no military checkpoint and would not be exposed to inter-regional crimes?”.

The ORA Igbomina Youth Front warned that failure to act decisively could further endanger lives and undermine the town’s reputation for peaceful coexistence.
