Police Rescue 15 Foreign Nationals from Suspected Human Trafficking Ring

The Osun State Police Command has rescued 15 foreign nationals believed to be victims of a suspected human trafficking syndicate in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The victims, reportedly brought into Nigeria from Togo, Benin Republic and Niger, were allegedly held under suspicious conditions in a three-bedroom apartment at Adeleke Estate, Osogbo, before police operatives intervened.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command said the rescue followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation carried out by officers of the State Intelligence Department (SID).

According to the statement, the victims were allegedly lured into Nigeria with false promises of employment and improved living conditions.

Ojelabi disclosed that the rescued individuals, aged between 20 and 30, are currently receiving medical care, counselling and protective support, while efforts are ongoing to ensure their rehabilitation and safe reunification with their families.

He identified the victims as Moise Nanga (30), Myriam Yakouba (28), Rostand Joseph (29), Mouris Kassoko (26), Bicosso Nadia (22), Samoru Ilan Azote (20), Doris Samnat (23), Zogo Michelle (25), Nebi Sera (21), Moeva Loure (23), Awa Asoka (25), Sonara Rene (26), Ella Cadore (24), Odil Mapa (25), and Madji Sanni (22).

The police spokesperson added that some suspects linked to the trafficking ring have fled, but efforts are underway to apprehend them.

He noted that the property agent who rented out the apartment to the suspects has been arrested and is assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Gotan, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking and other organised crimes.

He urged parents, guardians and property owners to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or recruitment activities to security agencies.
