Community Life Project Launches Four-Year Community Development Plans in Six Osun LGAs

A non-governmental organization, Community Life Project (CLP), has launched a four-year Community Development Plan across six local government areas of Osun State, aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable grassroots development.

Speaking at the Senior Programme Manager of CLP, Francis Onahor said the initiative covers Boripe, Ede North, Ejigbo, Ifedayo, Ife South, and Oriade local government areas was developed based on the needs and demands of the people.

Launching the project organized by the Community Life Project (CLP), in partnership with State Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room held on Wednesday at Leisure Springs Hotel, Osogbo, Osun State.

Onahor noted that the initiative comes at a critical time when the need for data-driven and evidence-based planning at the sub-national level has become increasingly important.

He explained that the development plans provide a credible framework for aligning community priorities with government planning and budgeting processes.

He emphasized that the strength of the plans lies in their participatory methodology, describing them as products of structured engagement involving local government officials, community leaders, traditional institutions, and sector stakeholders.

According to him, “We therefore strongly encourage State Ministries and Local Governments to institutionalize the use of these Plans within their annual budgeting and planning cycles, ensuring a more coordinated, inclusive, and sustainable development.

“As we launch these Plans today, we must remember that this is not the end of the process -it is the beginning of action. The real value of these Community Development Plans lies in their implementation. We, therefore, call on the affected Local Governments, State Ministries, and all relevant stakeholders to actively utilise these Plans in budget preparation, project selection, and policy decisions.

“We also encourage our community leaders and stakeholders to continue engaging constructively – tracking progress, asking questions, and ensuring that the priorities identified here translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.

“Together, we have listened to the communities. The responsibility before us now is to act on what we have heard. We look forward to seeing these Plans translated into measurable development outcomes across the six Local Governments.

“We also acknowledge the support of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). This work would not have been possible without your partnership,” he added.

Speaking, the Orangun of Oke-Ila, Osun State, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, called on politicians, public figures, and community stakeholders to shun corrupt practices in order to promote the development at the grassroots for the benefit of future generations.

He urged the residents of the state to work towards a better future of Osun State.

“We must work towards the development of our state for the next 50 years, and it is achievable. Osun State can be the leading state in Nigeria if all of us are committed to the state’s development.

“What we can do to develop our state is the essence of being here. Whatever position we are in today, we should strive towards the development of Osun State because of the future of our people,” he added.
