Varsity Don Urges Muslims to Uphold Qur’anic Teachings During Ramadan

A respected Islamic scholar, Dr. AbdulWahab Olayiwola, has called on Muslim ummah across Nigeria to strictly adhere to the teachings of the Qur’an while guiding the Muslim faithful, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Olayiwola who is a Lecturer at the University of Ilesa and Mudeer Islamic Institute, Ede, made the appeal while delivering a ramadan lecture, organised by the Faith Centre of Nigeria/Faith Dawah Organisation, entitled; Dawah and Modern Society, said that the current period is sensitive for Muslims and requires careful and responsible religious guidance.

He urged Islamic scholars and preachers to demonstrate wisdom, knowledge, and steadfastness when delivering sermons, considering the present social and moral challenges facing the country.

According to him, clerics play a crucial role in shaping the attitudes and conduct of the Muslim faithful, particularly during Ramadan, a period devoted to spiritual reflection, discipline, and devotion to Allah. He emphasized that religious leaders must ensure their teachings are firmly rooted in the Qur’an and authentic Islamic principles in order to guide believers on the right path.

Olayiwola also warned the Muslim Ummah against all forms of idolatry and practices that contradict Islamic teachings. He explained that Islam clearly instructs believers to worship Allah alone and avoid any tendencies that could lead to associating partners with Him, noting that such acts could negatively affect both their fasting and their overall faith.

He further reminded Muslims that Allah has made fasting during Ramadan compulsory for all eligible believers, adding that they must refrain from actions that could invalidate their fast. He stressed the importance of observing the fast with sincerity, discipline, and full adherence to Islamic guidelines.

The lecturer therefore encouraged Muslims to use the holy month as an opportunity to strengthen their relationship with Allah through increased prayers, acts of charity, and good deeds. He also urged members of the Muslim community to support the less privileged and extend kindness to those in need.

Olayiwola therefore, advised the muslim faithful to remain committed to the true teachings of Islam throughout Ramadan and beyond, noting that the spiritual lessons learned during the holy month should reflect in their daily lives and interactions with others.
