Apetu Stool Crisis: IPU Disowns Group, Urges Calm in Ipetumodu

The umbrella body of sons and daughters of Ipetumodu, home and abroad, The Ipetumodu Progressive Union, IPU in Ife North Local Government area of Osun State and the whole community have dissociated themselves from recent press conference held by certain group of people from the ruling houses or self-proclaimed leaders, specifically regarding the Apetu’s stool and political endorsement.

The IPU while reacting to the press conference through its National President, Dr Akinjogbin Israel and Secretary, Hon Kunle Bello refuted the press conference, indicating that the speakers at the conference did not represent the community stance while disowning the positions taken in that briefing.

According to the IPU, the body was not aware of the press conference and it has no support of the union itself, and the generality of the Ipetumodu community.

The IPU also dissociate itself from the indictment of the state Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Akinyode Oyewusi and government for non declaration of the vacant Apetumodu’s stool. We state unequivocally that we were not aware of any bottleneck emanating from the illustrous son of the community.

The IPU however declared that, the Governor Ademola Adeleke’s led administration and the Deputy Speaker have been supportive and responsive to the yearning of the ancient Ipetumodu.

“We wish to state that the ultimatum given to Governor Adeleke in the press conference is highly condemnable and does not represent the position of IPU and does not represent the interest of the majority of good people and residents of the community but few princess that gathered themselves in that town hall to address the press on their perceived interest in the stool

“The whole Ipetumodu community is peace loving which cannot be dragged or made to be seen as partisan to the allegations, ultimatum and threat to government and individuals in the rulling party in Osun or any political parties. We advise individuals in the community to continue to exercise their political franchise without any fear of intimidation from any quarter.

“For a community to be peaceful, it must focus on shared values rather than partisan agendas which occur when a small subset of individuals claims to speak for a larger community. We advise individuals or groups of individual to approach their demands or agitation through legitimate and civil means without further dragging the name of the community into the mud and made a subject of ridicule.

“In as much as we will not oppose any individual ambition in whatever form, we the IPU called on the entire residents of Ipetumodu to remain calm, going about there normal businesses, and be law abiding as we continue to speak for them”, Dr Akinjogbin concluded.
