25 Students Bag First Class In Al-Hikmah Varsity

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, says it is graduating 25 first class honours in its 12th Convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the institution’s auditorium.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Noah Yusuf made this disclosure during his press briefing on the 12th Convocation ceremony in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Yusuf, while giving the breakdown of the graduating students explained that 362 students came out with Second Class Upper Division, 566 students came out with Second Class Lower Division and 94 with Third Class, all totalling 1,047 undergraduate students.

While proceeding with the statistics, he said 184 students are graduating with Post Graduate degrees and 49 students are bagging the University’s diplomas, all totalling 1, 280 students.

Prof Yusuf said that three eminent personalities will be awarded Honoris Causa degrees as follows: Mr Fola Adeola, FCA, mni, will bag Doctor of Business Administration; Mrs Mosun Belo-Olusoga will bag Doctor of Accounting; and Mrs Foluke K. AbdulRazaq, Doctor of Finance.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the university is unveiling the Al-Hikmah University N50 billion Endowment and Development Fund aimed at ensuring rapid development of the first Islamic-based University in Nigeria.

“In the year under review the university completed two hostel projects at Atere and Igbaja Campuses each supported by Governor Aminu Masari of Kastina State and Islamic Solidarity Fund of Saudi Arabia..

“The university had ensured effective collaboration with several national and international institutions, National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Nigerian Army, Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Cavalla International University (CIU) among others.

“Improved and sustained students enrolments since my assumption of office. For the first time in recent years, the university recorded a higher number of admitted regular students with 1,287 students in 2021 and over 1,500 in 2022.

“Constitution of Senate Research Grant Committee with budgetary provision for individuals and collaborative researches in the institution.

” Robust support for the Faculty of Agriculture in Igbaja campus on crop produce, animal husbandry and poultry with the aim to feed the whole of Kwara and Nigeria in distance future.

” Unveiling of 5-year Strategic Plan, which has been approved by the University’s Council and debut of the first annual report of the University which is currently in press and shall be circulated to all unit before the end of the year,” he said

Prof Yusuf hinted on the take off of the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Engineering, saying that arrangements had been completed for the take off of Medicines, while Engineering will follow very soon.

The VC said that the University community is currently celebrating the exceptional performance of the first set of Law students from the institution, saying that their beilliant performance is a reflection of the quality of education existing in Al-Hikmah University.

Yusuf noted that despite the various feats recorded during the year, the institution like others is faced with some challenges both internal and external, among which are inadequate funding, absence of support from the government, infrastructural gap against rising students’ enrolments.

He appealed to the Federal and State government to accord education its right priorities and to assist the private universities.

Prof Yusuf said that the university has provided sporting facilities like table tennis, volley ball, football, long tennis among others to its students in all its three campuses to keep them busy and fit physically and emotionally.

The disclosure was made by the Railway District Manager of NRC, Mr Aliyu Mainasara, during the unveiling of the rail line services in Bauchi during which the RDM, management team and passengers were conveyed from the Bauchi station to Inkil Community and back to the main station in Bauchi. While speaking at the occasion, Aliyu Mainasara pointed out that the Services will run from Monday to Saturday three times in a day with a token of N200 per trip from Bauchi station to Inkil Community stressing that each trip will be accompanied by security personnel to protect passengers and their belongings. According to him, "The train has the capacity of conveying between 70 to 100 passengers with comforting facilities on each trip". The RDM however said that full services will commence on Monday, September 5, 2022 with daily and monthly schedules saying that the North-Eastern district had not run a single train in the last seven years due to challenges posed by insecurity and vandalization of its tracks . The RDM stressed that, "The initiative will accord the citizens and children to test the rail services because there are people who don't have experience of rail services. With this, the children from schools would go for an excursion from Bauchi station to Inkil Community that is five kilometers from Bauchi station". He then assured that, "By the end of this year, we will extend the services to Alkaleri local government area of the state up to Gombe state respectively" . He also said that Engineers in the District are working on the tracks for the expansion of the scope of services to the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state saying that, “The moment we fixed the tracks up to Alkaleri, believe me, we will start to run our trains as well as Gombe in the District".
