The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, his counterpart in Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and legal icon, Afe Babalola have been shortlisted as Laureates of World Peace Award.

The nomination of the Nigerian leaders as laureates of the World Peace Award was disclosed via a virtual meeting presided by the chairman of the award jury Amb. Janith Prabashwara Perera.

While Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum was nominated as Laureate of Peace and Security (LOPS), Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu was nominated as Laureate of Security (LOS), just as Aregbesola was also nominated as Laureate of Security (LOS).

Afe Babalola, SAN, made the list as Laureate of Development (LOD) while Mrs. Aminat Ajibola was shortlisted as World Icon of Peace (WIP).

Other Nigerian leaders shortlisted for the award include HRM Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan., (Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom) as Laureate of Development (LOD), Dr. Rahmon Adegoke Adedoyin, Nigeria as Laureate of Development (LOD)., Mr. Rotimi Omotayo, Nigeria as World Icon of Peace (WIP)., Pham. Abdulkareem Muhammed Jamiu Asuku, Nigeria as World Icon of Peace (WIP)., HRM Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Orangun of Oke Ila as Laureate of Development (LOD) and Miss. Oluwatobi Raji as World Icon of Peace (WIP).

Others are: Aare Tunde Odofin, Nigeria as World Icon of Peace (WIP)., HRH Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom as Laureate of Development (LOD)., Muazu Alhaji Misiya as Laureate of Peace (LOP) and Abba Aji Kalli as Laureate of Peace.

Meanwhile, the World Institute for Peace has made known its intention to hold the World Peace Conference in Nigeria.

The conference, according to the award jury of the institute, is slated to hold on March 14, 2021 at Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife, Osun State by 12:00noon.

While speaking to reporters, the chairman of the jury, Amb. Janith Prabashwara Perera, stated that the proposed event is to discuss the best solutions to banditry in the world.

He added that the event would also create a platform to present the suggested solutions to all presidents of the countries affected by banditry.

Dignitaries expected to grace the event are world peace leaders, renowned poets, foremost rights activists, students as well as community developers and African traditional rulers.

On his part, Dr. Pedrito Marrero, the secretary of the award jury, implored the recipients not to relent in promoting culture of peace, saying “this is why their names were confirmed as the winners among the over 200 nominees received by the Institute.”
