A motorcycle theft, identified as Loni, met his premature death, in earlier hours on Sunday, at Ireti Ayo community, Ilesa in Osun State.
It was gathered that the middle-age man was alleged to have stolen a motorcycle in Ireti Ayo community.
It was learnt that the deceased was apprehended by commercial motorcyclists and passersby in the community after he was observed carting away a motorcycle.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, explained that Loni had dispossessed the motorcycle from an unsuspecting commercial motorcyclist in the area, late on Saturday night.
According to an eyewitness, the suspect has previous records of robbery with the police in Ilesa, and disclosed that other commercial motorcyclists who identified him as a thief and were aware of his motorcycle snatching history, carried him away and killed him.
Reacting, The Police Public Relations Officer, Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola confirmed the mob action over an attempt to steal a motorcycle parked by the roadside.
Opalola said that the police command has not arrest any suspect in connection to the incident, noting that the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
According to PPRO, “The deceased who during his life happened to be a thief who specialized in stealing motorcycles in Ilesa.”
