Osun: Chieftancy Affairs Committee Submits Report, Received 1000 Petitions

The Chieftancy Affairs Review Committee inaugurated by Governor Ademola Adeleke over chieftaincy tussle in Osun State, Tuesday, submitted its report to the State Governor.

The Committee chaired by Reverend Bunmi Jenyo said within space of five weeks, the committee received over 1,000 petitions on chieftaincy matters.

Jenyo further said that over 200 individuals including the kingmakers of
all affected communities and three communities that he described volatile towns were interviewed

Those towns described as being volatile according to the Chairman Committee include Ikirun in Ifelodun Local Government, Igbajo and Iree both in Boripe Local Government Area,

According to him, “We looked at critical issues and we advised the government on what to do and how to do it in a legal way. We are not been sentimental nor attend to issues with prejudice. We are been just and God fearing.

“You can be rest assured that a committee under my leadership have done justice to the chieftaincy tussle within Osun state especially with the terms of reference Chieftaincy and installation of kings between July 17 till November 26th.

“We investigated, we attended to petitions and look at it critically because we believe in equity and we are been fair to all that was involved.

“In the course of our assignment we revisited a memo of Bola Ige of 1983 from the archives.” he added

While receiving the report, Governor Ademola Adeleke said the Committee was set up to allow rule of law and due process not witch hunt anybody

According to him, “We just want to make sure that Osun is different from other state that under my leadership we will make sure that will have rule of law, we will make sure we have due process. Anywhere that there is no due process or rule of law is not going to be accepted.

“I can assure you we are going to take a look at it and all the recommendations will be utilized.” he said

He, however commended the members committee for contributing their to quota to the development of the State.
