Insecurity: Ondo Bans Night Okada Operation

In line with preserving security, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has ordered the ban on motorcycle operations across the state between 7:00pm and 6:00am henceforth.

The directive was disclosed by the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, while parading over 70 suspected criminals recently arrested in Akure.

Adeleye said the governor also directed that all motorcycle operators in the state must register with the Amotekun corps and obtain certified documents authorising their operations.

He explained that riders and owners have been given two weeks to complete the registration process at the Amotekun headquarters or at the corps’ local government commands.

According to him, anyone who fails to comply with the directive after the stipulated period will be regarded as an illegal operator and may be treated as collaborators aiding criminal activities in the state.

In line with public health and safety, the security chief also announced the prohibition of other activities, including cart pushing in major urban centres across the state, and the display and sale of farm produce along major roads and other unauthorised locations.

In addition, the commander also disclosed that the government had directed all dealers in condemned iron scrap materials to register with the state government within two weeks or face possible enforcement actions.

While addressing the press, Akogun Adeleye noted that the directives were instructed by the state government and are aimed at strengthening security, maintaining public order and protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
