Oyo Govt Pays N37bn Gratuities, Death Benefits to LG Workers, Teachers

The Oyo State Government has disbursed over N37 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff since the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde began in 2019.

The Chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Akeem Ademola Ige, disclosed this during the distribution of another N3 billion to beneficiaries.

He explained that the payment covers both retired primary school teachers and former local government workers, as part of ongoing efforts to offset outstanding entitlements and improve the welfare of retirees in the state.

According to him, the disbursement exercise has been decentralised across the state’s geopolitical zones to ease the burden of travel for elderly beneficiaries and ensure a smoother process.

The initiative, he added, reflects the state government’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare and fulfilling its obligations to retirees.
