Commends FG, eulogies Osun CSDA for the great feat and laudable achievement
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday, commissioned the newly constructed 64 Locked up stalls and 8-installed Solar light at Atakunmosa market in conjunction with Osun State Community and Social Development Agency.
Speaking, Governor Adeleke described the Atakunmosa Market as an historic market and the largest in the State, which he said it has been contributing immensely to the economic growth of the State.
Adeleke, who was presented by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi said that traders in Atakunmosa Market had suffered untold hardships due to repeated fire outbreaks, destroying several goods and properties.
The governor said that economic empowerment of the people in the state is a key priority area in the development agenda of the present government because wealth creation and poverty eradication evolved round it.
He however, commended the World Bank for the enormous financial assistance to the State, the Federal Government is also appreciated, eulogizing Osun CSDA for the great feat and laudable achievement.
According to him, ”Let me reiterate the fact that we are here to empower our people. It is our responsibility to do so, because leadership is about taking responsibilities. We understand that sometimes, the responsibilities could be very enormous, but what is keeping us going is the readiness of God to guide us through the process, the evidences of what we see around the State, just within the spate of 100 days in office.
“I learnt many traders were displaced as a result of fire out break leading to economic deprivation and in their bid to survive, had resulted in looking for any available spaces and places to exhibit their wares, even when such were very odd to the extent of obstructing vehicular movement. This I learnt has led to protest and confrontations in the past. I hope the stalls being commissioned today will go a long way in addressing this issue and similar ones.
“In any clime, markets are important part of the economy. They allow a space where businesses, government and individuals can buy and sell goods and services and inject much-needed liquidity into the economy. Besides these, people of diverse ethnic groups, racial backgrounds and cultural traits are linked together in market places. Similarly, market provides physical setting for interaction between urban and rural cultures.
“In doing the business of governance and as far as our administration is concerned, loyalty and priorities are our watch words. This market is a priority to us. That’s why we are here.
“I would therefore admonish the traders in this market to imbibe these virtues. Do not adjust the standard measure ‘kobiowu’ to cheat potential customers. The words of God warned us against this. It is written in God’s words that we should do no wrong in judgement, in measures of length or weight or quantity. For with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you. Avoid unnecessary exploitation of people.
“May God continue to help us, I congratulate all the traders in this market, as I charged them to make good use of the stalls, always be security conscious, avoid any thing that can trigger off fire outbreak such as careless disposal of cigarette stumps, adulterated fuel, illegal connection of electricity and the likes.” The governor said
In her address the General Manager of Osun State Community And Social Development Agency (Osun CSDA), Aderonke Abokede, said that the newly constructed shops will rejuvenate the economic status of the people as well as create a conducive environment for business and overall boost the economic activities of the State.
Abokede further said Atakunmosa market has vast potential in revitalizing the economy of the State as well as the vast opportunities it holds for individual commercial activities.
She stressed that the commissioning of the Market only possible because of the funding provided by the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
“Atakunmosa market is a well patronized market and a veritable internally generated revenue spinners for the Government. This market has vast potential in revitalizing the economy of the State as well as the vast opportunities it holds for individual commercial activities.
“98 micro projects are been funded across the State out of which 64 Locked up shops and 8 solar light are to be commissioned today. As shown today, The Executive Governor of Osun State is committed and dedicated to the improvement of basic economic and livelihoods of the people of Osun State. Indeed, our Governor is walking his talk on his 5 Point Development Agenda as a matter of fact, this project is in line with the No. 2 Development Agenda of Mr Governor “To Boost Economy of the State”.
“This is the provision of democracy dividend to the people- electoral promises are translated into needed social amenities and development through Osun State Community and Social Development Agency (Osun CSDA).
I must thank Iyaloja, Babaloja, Project Management Committee and entire Market Men and Women of Atakunmosa Market, for their contribution and participation before and during the implementation of these micro projects as this has entrenched ownership and sustainability.
