A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Engr. Benjamin Adereti has called on Nigerians to sustain democratic government in Nigeria, saying no form of government better than democracy.

He said democracy which is the best system of government a country could practice that could benefit all and sundry, saying democracy has come to stay in Nigeria.

He congratulated Nigerians on this year’s Democracy Day celebration, noting that June 12 is a significant day in the history of the country’s democratic system which metamorphosed into present democratic dispensation.

The statement stressed that political leaders need to continuing supporting efforts at making democracy strive in the country, saying Nigeria has joined other countries where democracy are stabled and practiced.

He said with the recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day by the past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that democracy has come stay in the country permanently.

According to the statement, our leaders must always be committed and dedicated to the development of the country by given dividends of democracy to the downtrodden masses in the country.

“On this occasion of Democracy Day, it is time for us to reflect as a people and a country on our journey to becoming a democratic society.

“Democracy and the process of democratisation are a constant work in progress. While what we celebrate today is a return to democracy in Nigeria, the desire to make our democracy self-sustaining and independent of anti-democratic elements is the new frontier of participation by all democrats.

“As it requires collective energy and commitment to attain democracy, it will require a concomitant commitment to advance the cause of democracy and our democratisation process.

“The challenge ahead of us and the future of our democracy will rely heavily on what we do or fail to do today. To achieve this noble goal, our commitment to the cause of democracy must be eternal”, he said.

He therefore, urged all Nigerians to support the administration Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sustain the democratic gains in Nigeria.
