Chairman of Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, Hon. Mufutau Adegbite, has berated an online news medium, Sahara Reporters, over an allegation misappropriation of public funds and nepotism leveled against him.
DOCPETINFO News gathered that Sahara Reporters in a publication alleged that the Council boss connived with his wife who is a civil servant in the local government to illegally divert N50m from the council’s account for personal use.
According to the Council boss, “You cannot take any loan on behalf of any Local Government without the approval of Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs. As a matter of fact, I did not take any loan on behalf of the Local Govt, and the records are there for inspection and entrenchment of this fact.
However, Hon. Adegbite while reacting, described the publication as false, one-sided, malicious and fictitious. Stressing that his administration has been adjudged one of the most transparent and accountable Local Council Adminstrations in the state.
He said that the publications was sponsored by mischief makers who are hell bent on tarnishing his image out of envy over the numerous giants strides he has achieved in office.
He further cleared the air on the purported story specifically designed to demean his good reputation that the evidence of transactions involving his wife was twisted to suit devilish agenda, as his wife is one of the signatories to the LG Council legally authorised to receive bank notifications for inflow and outflow of cash for the said Local Council, and the evidence from the transactions involving past immediate regime headed by Remi Odewale is herein attached to corroborate this fact.
The LG Chairman said that he has never misappropriated public fund since the time he took the mantle of leadership at the LG level.
He reiterated that his wife had been working as the local government cashier before he was elected as chairman, and at no time had he turned the Local Government into their personal venture, describing his wife as an honest, transparent and disciplined civil servant with 100 percent clean record as an incorruptible government worker.
He however expressed disappointment in Sahara over the one-sided story dished out for public consumption, saying that “It’s baffles one mind, which type of journalism saharareporter is practising”?
“An allegation was raised and it did not deem it fit to hear from the person alleged before going to the public with false accusations”. He said.
Hon. Adegbite enjoined the public to disregard the allegation and considered it an unsubstantiated rumour aimed at denting his good image, while urging them to continue to support his administration in delivering the dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of Ife South Local Government.
