Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits, on Sunday night, invaded Madabanciya community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted a new couple.
According to a villager, Mallam Ibrahim Madabanciya, the terrorists arrived at the village on foot at about 11:45pm on Sunday, leaving their motorcycles outside the village.
He explained that the bandits, in their large numbers, stormed the community with sophisticated weapons and immediately started shooting sporadically to scare the residents.
He further stated that the bandits went from house to house in search of food items and other valuables.
He said, “They stole large quantities of animals, food items and other valuables, without any challenge from any security operative.
“As they moved round the village, they came across a newly married couple and took them to the forest.”
Speaking further, he said that there were no security agents attached to the village to protect the lives and property of the residents.
However, the State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
On its part, the State Government said it has concluded arrangements to launch its Community Protection Guards tomorrow, Wednesday, 31st January, 2024.
It said that it would deploy the guards to their respective localities to help the security personnel in the fight against banditry.
Recall that Zamfara State has been witnessing frequent attacks by terrorists, resulting in the loss of lives and the abduction of numerous locals for more than a decade.
It could also be recalled that in December 2023, bandits invaded Zurmi town, headquarters of Zurmi Local Government Area of the State, during which one person lost his life, two people injured and 15 others abducted.
