Gunmen have killed five policemen and three villagers in the Gatikawa area of Kankara council of Katsina State.
The policemen, who were on special duty from Kano State, were killed on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Gambo Isah confirmed the attack, adding that investigation was ongoing.
He said, “The terrorists were well over 300 and fully armed. The five policemen were from Kano state and were on special duty at Gatikawa”
”The terrorists attacked them at 6.45pm and also killed three civilians. Investigation is already in progress on the matter.”
Local sources said the gunmen stormed the village “on motorcycles and went from one house to the other and carting away valuables including money and food items. Many villagers suffered multiple injuries when they attempted to escape from the terrorists”.
It was also said that many residents have fled the community in fear.
