Festus Keyamo, spokesperson of the Bola Tinubu presidential campaign council, says  President Muhammadu Buhari was inciting anarchy and coup d’etat with his flagrant disobedience to the Supreme Court order on the old naira notes.

Mr Keyamo on Friday gave his hot take in a Channels TV interview where he asserted the president’s defiance to allow the old bank notes to circulate alongside the redesigned ones, as ordered by the apex court, was an open invitation to “revolutional (sic) intervention.”

“By virtue of our Constitution, all authorities in Nigeria must obey the orders of the Supreme Court, anything to the contrary is a descent to anarchy,” stressed Mr Keyamo in the interview.

“The day we begin to disobey the order of the Supreme Court, that is an invitation to revolutionary intervention or other kind of intervention in our democracy,” he added.

The APC campaign mouthpiece insisted Mr Buhari was “under an obligation to obey the Supreme Court,” like other public servants including Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, Ogun’s Dapo Abiodun and other APC governors who have sworn to follow the highest court’s verdict.

“The governors are obeying the orders of the Supreme Court. They have a duty to ensure there is peace and order in their states,” said Mr Keyamo. “The Supreme Court order still subsists. This order subsists till the motion on notice is decided. It is a subsisting order.”

“It is dangerous to pick which orders of the Supreme Court to obey,” the campaign’s mouthpiece said.

Due to the lack of the recoloured notes, violent protests have already broken out around the country, with enraged residents vandalising banking infrastructure. However, there are claims the chaotic protests were politically sponsored to deliberately thwart the implementation of the new notes.

Violent protests have already erupted across the nation with angry citizens vandalising banking facilities over the scarcity of the recoloured notes. But some

Members of the ruling APC, who up until now have maintained a united front, are now at loggerheads with each other as a result of the new notes policy.

Governors like Nasir El-Rufai,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Abdullahi Ganduje, for the first time, made snide comments against Mr Buhari and dubbed his regime a failure.

APC members like Bashir Ahmad, Garba Shehu, aides to the president, said the governors were only angry they would be unable to bribe voters at the poll since the new notes have rendered their stashed loot worthless.
