Tennis star Camila Giorgi was forced to retire from her clash with Jessica Pegula at Roland Garros on Wednesday afternoon.
Giorgi, who is also a lingerie model, lost the first set 6-2 when she was forced to retire from the match with an unspecified injury. The commentators on Eurosport expressed their shock: “Goodness, this is a big surprise!”
Eurosport commentator, Simon Reed added: “It looks like something she brought into the match.” Pegula, who made it to the quarter-finals last year, will now advance to the third round, where she will face Belgian star Elise Mertens.
“My life is not just sports,” Giorgi told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera last month.
“Tournaments, results and cups can be shared on other channels, but on social I like to share another kind of thing. My femininity, my being a woman, even a blouse that I like, if I like.”
However, she added: “Private life no, that’s just mine. I consider myself an introverted person, this is how I tell myself. They are just photos.”
Giorgi claimed her first WTA title in almost two years at the Merida Open in Mexico in February. However, any momentum she was able to take from the win was quickly derailed as she spectacularly lost her cool the following month.

After a flurry of double faults in her opening round match at the Miami Open, Giorgi hurled her racket at the ground in frustration. However, after dropping the second set, Giorgi managed to regain composure, and she battle back to take the game.
