The Dane and the Spaniard broke a record of precocity that previously belonged to Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt

The ATP Finals have finally begun in Turin, with the eight stars already starting to challenge each other: Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune set a record even before taking to the court. The event that brings together the 8 players best positioned in the world ranking began with the victory of Jannik Sinner, against Stefanos Tsitsipas, with a double 6-4 In a couple of hours however there will be the challenge between the number 1 in the ATP ranking and defending champion Novak Djokovic against one of the youngest of the group, Holger Rune, who managed to qualify at the last minute in Paris Bercy.

The Dane himself, together with Carlos Alcaraz, by participating in this edition of the Masters Tournament, broke a record of precocity that previously belonged to Marat Safin and Lleyton Hewitt. For the second time since the year 2000, two players under the age of 21 have participated in an ATP Finals.

A statistic that also tells of an ongoing generational change, which is bringing talents capable of competing at high levels from a very young age.

Rune is excited to play the ATP Finals
In the press conference, Rune talked with great emotion about his first appearance at the ATP Finals.

This year he has experienced a season of ups and downs. A first part of the season at top level. The second, also due to physical problems, encountered difficulties, but the goal was achieved in the end. “I’m definitely looking forward to being here this year.

Obviously last year it would have been great to qualify directly, but I didn’t expect to qualify at all. Before the last three tournaments I wasn’t even close, so I put in a lot of effort and succeeded. Even in Paris-Bercy I didn’t think about it, because in every match I played against the top 10.

I expected to lose every match. It just happened. This year I will try to do the same, giving my all on the court.” Then on his first opponent of his week, Djokovic said this: “You can’t hope that he misses a shot or has a bad day.

He loses maybe four or five matches a season, he has very few bad days. You can only hope to play your best tennis and be more focused than ever on the court. You have to be ready to give everything.”
