The Dutch media have targeted Sergio Perez again as they now claim that the difference in performance between Perez and Max Verstappen could result in a reduction in his salary.

Media outlets such as De Telegraaf published that “for the summer vacations Perez’s contract could be adjusted this month if the Mexican is at least 125 points behind his teammate”, who is currently the leader of the F1 championship, Max Verstappen.

With the Dutchman’s recent victory last weekend at the Belgian Grand Prix, the difference between the two drivers is precisely at that 125-point gap, which happened while F1 announced four weeks of summer intermission.

According to De Telegraaf, Red Bull reserves the right to adjust Perez’s salary or the financial clauses of his contract.

The specialized motorsport outlet RacingNews365.com also added that at the time that Checo Perez currently earns a base salary of 10 million dollars per year with the Red Bull team, but the adjustment nor the ammount have been confirmed yet.

The Dutch newspaper clarified that if Red Bull exercises this right, “any change they wish to make will only affect the monetary part of Perez’s contract” and will not alter other issues such as the duration of the Mexican’s relationship with the team, which is confirmed to be extended until the end of 2024.

Red Bull’s RB19 car has proven its supremacy on the track so far in 2023, with Verstappen and Perez winning all 12 Grands Prix and three Sprint events this year.

For now, “Mad Max” has proven to be untouchable in recent weeks, taking the podium in eight consecutive Grands Prix, while Sergio Perez has been criticized for a supposed drop in performance, which has also been due to several mistakes not attributable to him in qualifying sessions that have then complicated the development of his races.
