Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has been mandated by the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) to resolve the lingering crisis in the state chapter of the party ahead of the February 2022 proposed national convention
Out-going State Caretaker Chairman of the party, Chief Akin Oke; former Minister of Communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu; spokesman of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, Mr. Bolaji Tunji; sources close to former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala and Senator Teslim Folarin, confirmed the development to The Guardian yesterday.
They affirmed that the CECPC had actually mandated the governor to ensure the crisis in the chapter is resolved and peace brought back before the national convention.
In a chat with The Guardian, Oke, who stated that it was true that Oyetola was working towards resolving the imbroglio in Oyo APC, said: “The Osun State governor had met with us and we stated our side of the story. We are expecting to hear from the national headquarters.”
Similarly, Shittu expressed hope in the capacity of Oyetola to resolve the crisis, saying necessary stakeholders had been invited by the governor and to the best of his knowledge, they were all co-operating.
In his comment, Tunji said the Ajimobi tendency was represented in the discussion with Oyetola by Oke and others. He also confirmed that spirited efforts were ongoing to bring peace to Oyo APC.
The Guardian also learnt that Alao-Akala met Oyetola fortnight ago in Osun State on the crisis but the details of the meeting was not disclosed.
MEANWHILE, Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has warned that division and disunity among members of the APC in Ekiti State could deprive the party of victory in the 2022 governorship election.
Ojudu gave the warning in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, while interacting with selected members of the party and kinsmen, who paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in the state capital.
He said: “What we are seeing today in Ekiti APC portrays a very bad omen for the party, but we will salvage the situation so that we can rescue whatever that remains for the benefit of all of us.
“There are divisions everywhere. I even learnt a big fight broke out at the governor’s residence yesterday (Sunday) and people were throwing sachet water and shouting ‘ole, ‘ole. No one appears to be in charge of the party.
“We don’t have a leader in Ekiti APC and this is really affecting us.”
Ojudu said he decided to sacrifice his governorship ambition and maintain neutrality in 2022 to afford him the opportunity to mediate and resolve all nagging issues for the party to be victorious in the governorship election.
