The Magistrate Court sitting in Osun, Osogbo has remanded four bricklayers over their alleged attempt to murder Onigege of Igege, Oba Kazeem Adio over a land issue.

The four defendants; Mujeeb Semi, 25, Kazeem Olasunkanmi, 47, Rokibu Kabiru, 27, and Ismaheel Nurudeen, 32, were arraigned before the court presided over by Dr Olusegun Ayilara.

They are facing one five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, a misdemeanour of the content of court, forcible entry, malicious damage, breach of peace and attempted murder.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Lamidi Rasaki, told the court that the four defendants and others now at large between January and February 2022 at Igege area conspired among themselves to commit misdemeanour to wit contempt of court, forcible entry, malicious damage and entering a piece of land situated at Obafoworo area to unlawfully damage palm trees including other economical trees.

He added that the defendants threatened to kill Oba Kazeem Adio, who is the owner of the aforementioned land, and others by using guns, cutlasses, axes and other dangerous weapons.

Inspector Rasaki noted that the offences contravened sections 517, 81, 451, 86 and 133(9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The four defendants pleaded not guilty to the alleged offence while their defence counsel, Najite Okobe made an oral bail application, assuring the court that they have reliable sureties.

The police prosecutor opposed their bail, stressing that the life of the monarch was in danger and if granted bail, they might execute their plan of murder.

Magistrate Ayilara ordered that the suspects be remanded in Ilesha correctional facility.

He adjourned the matter till 14th April 2022.
