Court Remands Traditional Ruler, 2 Others In Prison Over Alleged Murder

A traditional ruler in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Olu of Igoba, Chief Adinlewa Adeniyi, alongside with two other chiefs have been remanded in correctional facility over alleged murder of the former Elemo of Igoba, the late Aladegbaye Johnson.

The suspects are; Chief Adeniyi, Chief Adegbola Omoye and Adegbayi Ayoola were charged with conspiracy, murder among others for allegedly causing the death of Aladegbaye Johnson on August 4, 2021, at Aleo and Imolumo, Igoba in the Akure Judicial Division having allegedly severely beaten and first blew the jaw of Aladegbaye Johnson and Peter Akomolafe.

According to the charge sheet, on conspiracy, the respondents were alleged to have committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The trio were arraigned before Justice Williams Rotimi Olamide of the Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the state capital.

The legal counsel to the traditional head of Igoba, Barrister Ola Dan Olawale pray to court to grant bail application for his client.

The Prosecuting Counsel Attorney, T. L. Oluwadare asked the court to grant her time to study the bail application.

The Trial Judge, Justice Williams Rotimi Olamide, subsequently, adjourned the hearing of the bail application and the substantive case to May 19, 2022. He remanded the accused in correctional facility.
