FILIPINA tennis ace Alex Eala is now preparing for her upcoming Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 Canberra International in Australia.
The event takes place on December 31 before the Australian Open Qualifiers, which will take place on Jan. 8, 2024.
After a period of rest in Boracay, Eala trained at the Manila Polo Club in Makati City under her coaches from the Rafa Nadal Academy
The 18-year-old ace was also seen among 24,459 at game 2 of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2nd All Filipino Conference Finals on Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, that saw the Creamline Cool Smashers defeat the Choco Mucho Flying Titans in five sets, 3-2, clinching the championship.
“I didn’t know what to expect, going to the game,” Eala, who cheered for the champions, told reporters before the game. “But I’m so happy for this… very live within the Filipino community and it’s inspiring, because for tennis, I hope to see an atmosphere like this and it’s so nice to see the sportsmanship and teamwork that they were looking forward to.”
On December 11, Eala tied her career best, ranking at 189 in the WTA Women’s singles rankings.
Her rise in the WTA rankings came after a year of winning two International Tennis Federation tournaments and two bronze medals at the 19th Asian Games.
