Residents of Ejigbo, Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State have cried out to State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola to come to their rescue over the collapsed Sagan bridge.
Sagan bridge which link Court area, Odebara and Agoji area together which was said to have collapsed ten months ago.
Some residents in ward 4, Ejigbo on Tuesday, urged State government to come to their aide in reconstruct the bridge.
Speaking with our correspondent who visited the area they lamented the negative impact caused by the collapsed bridge on their daily activities.
One of the landlord in the affected area Mustapha Adedeji said houses and shops owners in the area are no longer sleep with their two eyes closed due to the fear of floodwater which may flow out from the water channel through the collapsed bridge during a heavy downpour.
Adedeji added that due to the collapsed of the water channel many houses have been affected, urging the State government to rescue them from floodwater.
He said, “Government official with media came some months ago in our believe that the reconstruction will commence after their visitation but since then we have not seen any development over it.
Appealing to government urgent intervention against unwanted disaster he said “Our houses are not but on water way but we are afraid of floodwater disaster which may occur in this area.”
Lamenting the situation, a car wash attendant, Ayandare Joshua to our correspondent that collapsed bridge has effected his business, saying costumers area no longer patronizing him cause of in accessible road.
Joshua said he and some other prominent residents of the area made attempt to put the bridge in a good shape for motorists but was beyond their capacity.
“We have contacted the local government chairman to our aid on the reconstruction of this bridge which he promised necessary action for long time ago but yet nothing has been done.
According to Joshua, “Things are becoming difficult for me after the collapse of Sanga bridge, my car wash business is no longer attracting costumers. I am appealing to the government to assist us by reconstructing this bridge as soon as possible.”
A roadside food seller who simply identified herself as Iya Mubo expressed worry over the poor turn market in the area.
Contacting the local government boss, Honorable Ogunwale Tesleem told our correspondent that he had put some efforts to ensure that reconstruct of the bridge was actualized in short period of time.
He further said that he has also written to the Osun State House of Assembly to hasten the reconstruction of the bridge for users benefit.
“Effort has been made to make sure the road become useful. We have consulted the commissioner for Works and Transport, Honorable Remi Omowaiye, he told us that governor has approved the reconstruction of the bridge but there is currently challenges of funds.
“The Commissioner assured us that as soon as the government release fund work will commence immediately.”he said
