The Ekiti House of Assembly has urged Nigerians to maintain peace in the new year to have an unprecedented transformation in the state.

The assembly also appealed to the state’s residents to support Governor Biodun Oyebanji to enable the state to have peaceful elections.

The assembly stated this on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti in its New Year message signed by the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs chairman, Adeoye Aribasoye.

The lawmakers, in the statement, implored the citizens to identify with the government’s efforts in tackling the insecurity confronting Ekiti.

“Incidences of kidnapping, killings and banditry being experienced in some sections of the state need to be tackled to realise the government’s transformation plans. We would continue partnering with the governor in enacting laws to promote good governance and speedy transformation of Ekiti,” the statement noted.

It indicated that the lawmakers expressed joy over the transformative strides witnessed under the new government.

“The contributions of Ekiti people are needed in the new year for the actualisation of the governor’s electioneering promises to them. We congratulate Ekiti people and Nigerians for witnessing the new year and wish them stable, peaceful and progressive governance in 2023,” added the legislators.

It also mentioned that “we all have to take ownership of government by showing interest and fulfilling our obligations as patriotic citizens of this state in 2023.”

The lawmakers, according to the statement, urged the Ekiti people to propagate the culture of togetherness inherited from their forebears.

“We should reject the ‘pull-him-down’ syndrome, religious and ethnic-based politics. All these create segregation, as well as mistrust in the leadership system,” the statement stressed.

The lawmakers praised the Ekiti residents for their meaningful contributions to the development of the state and assured them of continued robust representations.

“We would also continue implementing our oversight functions in the best interest of the people,” they stated.
