The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold an “extraordinary meeting” on Saturday to decide on the timetable for the 2023 elections.
The meeting comes in the wake of the signing of the electoral act amendment bill into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
INEC had scheduled the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections for February 18, 2023.
But according to Section 28 (1) of the electoral bill 2022, INEC is required to issue a notice of election not later than 360 days before the day appointed for an election.
Festus Okoye, INEC commissioner and chairman, information and voter education, said the commission would issue a statement on the way forward after its meeting.
