The former world No. 5 chipped in to the victory by acing the third and final fast money round.
Ten years ago, at the peak of her tennis prowess, former world No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard famously described pop icon Justin Bieber as her “ideal date.” But this past week, as she and her family competed on Canada’s “Family Feud” game show, the now 30-year-old revealed that she actually turned the Grammy Award-winner down for a night out.
“It’s a funny story,” the 2014 Wimbledon finalist began. “We played a tennis match for charity and he asked me to hang out later, but I had a boyfriend so I said ‘No,’ and I believe I deserve [the] girlfriend of the century award.”
But the viral quip wasn’t Bouchard’s only winning moment from the game show. Joined by her siblings Will and Beatrice, their cousin Celeste, and Celeste Bouchard’s former boyfriend, Ryan Shepherd, on the spin-off of the long-running American show of the same name, the crew won nearly $12,000 after three episodes ($11,555, to be exact).
After they fell short in their first two attempts, Bouchard chipped into the family’s win with her performance in the final, fast money round, where two of a team’s players each have to answer five questions without repeating any answers and accumulate 200 points; they earn points based on how popular their answers were amongst a pre-determined group of people surveyed prior to the show.
Bouchard and Shepherd teamed to answer the following:
Name something in the kitchen you unplug after using?
Fill in the bank: “The BLANK of my life.”
Name a muscle you might pull at the gym?
On a scale of 1-10, how well can you do your boss’ job?
Name an animal with buck teeth
After Shepherd’s answers netted 147 points (including 52 points for answering “beaver” for the final question), Bouchard only needed 53 points to hand her team victory.
Thirty-five points for Bouchard’s answer of “10” for question No. 4 is what ultimately put the team over the top.
