Expert Seeks Free Medical Treatment For Hepatitis B Patient

A medical expert from the Department of Internal Medicine at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Roheem Yussuf has advised the government to subsidize the treatment of the hepatitis B patient to reduce the burden of the disease.

Dr. Yusuf said that if the government can subsidize hepatitis B treatment it will prevent the complication of the disease.

The medical expert disclosed this on Sunday at the 39th Anniversary of Akhbaru-deen ‘Existence In Dawah Activities’ organized medical check up for ummah held at akhbaru-deen Central Mosque, Osogbo, Osun State.

He charged the general public to go to medical expert to know the status of their health about the disease.

He noted that the disease is not curable but manageable which he said that the patient as to be on treatment for life.

According to him, the problem we have with the treatment of hepatitis B is the cost of the medications.

He said, “the common course of hepatitis that we know around is one that is caused by infectious agents which include bacteria, virus, fungal, viral causes are the commonest among these viruses there are many of them B. C, D, and E, these alphabeta designated to classify these various viruses that actually attack livers.

“We want the government to also look for a way of subsidizing some of the investigations that we do to evaluate patient for hepatitis B, including the treatment, to make treatment too available free of charge. Like how it’s been done for HIV AIDS. We know HIV treatment is available free.

“This is what we want the government to improve on, the government has been trying to sensitize people on world hepatitis B day, it been commemorated every July 28 and government should do more by subsidizing the investigations or making them free, then treatment to be available free for those that hepatitis B because one of the problem we have with the treatment is the cost of the medications.” he said
