A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has come under attack for insisting that he was never arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

DAILY POST had reported that Fani-Kayode was rearrested by EFCC on Tuesday over alleged document falsification.

Fani-Kayode, alongside others, is standing trial over alleged N4.6 billion money laundering, alongside Nenandi Usman, a former Minister of State for Finance.

According to the report, Fani-Kayode was arrested on Tuesday after proceedings at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

However, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, the former Minister denied the arrest, saying he was only invited by the anti-graft agency.

“Once again I was invited to the EFCC today. Once again, despite media reports, I was NOT arrested but invited. I got there at 11.00 am and I have just been released. Thanks be to God”, he tweeted.

But some Nigerians who stormed the comment section to express themselves, lambasted him for denying the arrest, stressing that he is contradicting himself.

Below are some of the comments as compiled by our correspondent.

@DanielRegha: “FFK u are contradicting urself; U claim u weren’t arrested by the EFCC but u got released? This means u were brought in against ur will so therefore it’s safe to say that u were arrested by the EFCC. This is also the second time & it’s beginning to raise a lot of red flags.”

@Anozie_Bryant: “Not arrested but released. Let me assume it’s the beaten in the office of EFCC that has caused this”.

@Jugo_kc: “Very soon they will send FFK to jail. And then FFK will write, “I was invited by the Prison Warder at Kirikiri, He is my friend and brother, I will you just spend 15 years with him, and they will release me. Thank God”.

@spacelyn: “You said you were invited and NOT arrested, but you “been released” meaning you were asked to go but didn’t leave when you wanted? Please tell them you don’t want to party with them anymore. No more invites please”.

@ECOnuoha: “My friend and brother, if you arrived and were held till over 8 pm, you were arrested and detained sir. And it’s not a problem, anybody can be arrested, even a bridge builder. We know you built a lot of bridges during all those hours. Remain blessed”.
